VERY IMPORTANT Notes

** Every time you switch your yarn color, you’re going to chain 1 to attach the new color.  That chain does NOT count as one of the chains.

So, for example, if it says “switch to color C, ch 1” you’ll chain with the new color to switch, and then chain 1 after that.

(This is because that first chain that you use to change colors will get squished down when you pull on the yarn tails and basically disappears.)

** When you switch colors, don’t cut the yarn.  Just drop it and switch to the next color, and when you need it again you can pick it up and carry it up the side.

Later, we’ll crochet over the sides for the border and yarn running up the sides will be hidden.

How this Pattern Works

You’ll be crocheting from the front edge of the bandana (the part that would be closest to your face) to the back point (the part that will be near the back of your head).

Then you’ll do the border and straps, working around the edge.

Each different colored wave section is made up of 2 rows, a wave pattern row and a single crochet row.

At the beginning and end of each row, you’ll be decreasing, so each row will shrink by 2 stitches.

This will create the triangle shape.

The wave pattern stays the same for each row, only the beginning and the end of the row will be different. The wave pattern looks like this:

  • 3 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 3 tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 3 sc, repeat

And each wave row will alternate from the previous row.

Be sure to watch the video that goes along with this pattern, where I’ll show you how each row begins and ends and how to do the border and straps.

I know it’s a little more complicated than some of my patterns, but it looks so cool that I think it’s worth the extra time to make it.
