STEP 1: Creating the Foundation Loop
Take one of your 134” long pieces and fold it in half. Lay it on a desk or work surface and lay it so it forms a loop right in the center of the cord.
Grab another piece of cord and attach it to the loop with a lark’s head knot and position the knot so it’s wrapped around the crossed part of the loop.
The cord ends from the looped cord will be coming out on either side from the lark’s head knot you just made.
STEP 2: Attaching the Rest of the Cords
Attach the other six cords to the loop with lark’s head knots.
Pull the ends of the first looped cord evenly to tighten up the loop, then go ahead and tie a square knot with those two cords as the working cords and the two cords from the knot attached over them as the filler cord.
Tie a square knot with the remaining three sets of cords going around. It’ll be shaped kind of like a plus sign going around the center circle.
STEP 3: Plant Holder Basket Section
On all four sections, tie nine more square knots so you have ten total for each one.
Starting with one section, take the left two cords and tie 16 alternating half hitch knots.
Then do the same thing with the right two cords, but make the first knot in the opposite direction that you did on the left side.
Repeat that with the other three sections.
Grab the left two cords from one section and the right two cords from the section to the left of it, and use them to tie a square knot right up next to the alternating half hitch knots.
Do that with the rest of the sections going around to form the plant hanger basket.
Once you get them all attached, go back around to each square knot and tie four more square knots in a sennit.
STEP 4: Plant Hanger Arms
Take one of your plant hanger arms and measure about 4 inches down from the last square knot you just tied.
Tie 20 spiral half knots starting at that 4” mark.
Do the same thing for the other three arms.
I like to tie the first knot of each arm, and then line them up with the first one and make sure it’s in the right spot before tying the rest of the knots.
STEP 5: Attaching the Ring
Hold all the cords together and try to make them kind of organized and neat, then thread the ends through the wooden ring.
You’ll want to leave about 10 inches between the wooden ring and the last spiral half knot.
Grab the 30” piece of cord and use it to tie a wrapping knot around the folded over cords just below the wooden ring.
Carefully pull each of the cord ends to even out any slack around the ring.
Tie an overhand knot in the end of each cord about an inch or two away from the wrapping knot (or you can leave the fringe longer if you like).
Cut the excess cord below each knot.
That’s it, you’re plant hanger is done!
