Please say a prayer for my sinuses.

Since we’re all ready for winter to be over, what better way pass the time than making macrame plant hangers!

I thought I’d round up some cool, unique, and fun macrame plant hangers to share with you today.

Some of these are pretty easy, some are a little more challenging, but all of them are worth taking a look at.

Before we dive into the list,

Quick story…

Once upon a time, a couple of years ago, I decided to make a macrame plant hanger to hang up outside on my deck.

Seems like a safe bet. Right?

I expertly tied the knots, nestled a lovely fern within, and overall, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment.

It just looked super cute, totally nailing that laid-back boho vibe I was going for. So… that was that.

Only it wasn’t.

By the time the summer was over, it was in pretty rough shape.

Not knowing any better, I had used regular cotton cord for this plant hanger.

After spending the summer being assaulted by rain, sun, and squirrels, it was dirty, ratty, and deteriorating.

Let’s just say, it didn’t make it past that one summer.

So, this year, I’m making some outdoor plant hangers with the proper cord so I don’t have a repeat of that sad experience.

If you want to make outdoor plant hangers I suggest you do the same.

Here’s the cord I’m using:

I went with the 6 mm because I’m planning to grab a larger fern when I see them on sale, and I wanted the cord to be able to handle it.

They also have it in 3 mm, but it’s 3 ply and not braided. Either one would work beautifully.

You can really use any synthetic cord you want for your outdoor plant hangers.

The local hardware store usually has something in stock. Sometimes they only have weird colors, but maybe that’s your thing. No judgement here.

If you want to grab some cord on Amazon, Bonnie’s is always a solid choice:

Alright, now that we covered that, let’s dive in to these fun macrame plant hanger patterns!

Diamond Macrame Wall Hanging Pattern

This is one of my favorite plant hanger patterns.

The unique diamond design makes it stand out, and it’s always nice to have a plant hanger you can stick on the wall if you don’t have any of those ceiling hooks.

It might look complicated, but it’s not and I walk you through the whole process in the tutorial and free pattern.

Definitely give this one a try, or at least pin it for later.

No Tassel Macrame Plant Hanger

Sick of tassels on the bottom of your macrame plant hangers? Well, I’ve got the pattern for you!

This macrame plant hanger has no tassel on the bottom, but it does sort of have one on the top (those ends have to go somewhere).

It’s a simple design, but turns out really cute. Here’s the free pattern for this macrame plant hanger.

Cool Macrame Air Plant Hanger by Made in May

This is a really cool and clever design and a great way to display multiple air plants at once.

You could even add a few more of the small wooden rings if you want to. How cute is that?

I bet you could make this design in different sizes too if you used a different sized wooden ring.

It would be kind of cool to make three of these that went next to each other, or maybe even try a stacked version!

Double Macrame Plant Hanger

Do you have 2 plants that you need to find a home for? Then make a double macrame plant hanger!

This pattern is really easy, and all you have to do is repeat it twice.

I’ll walk you through the whole process for this macrame pattern right here.

Elegant (But Easy) Plant Hanger from Soulful Notions

If you’re looking for a really classy design that’s still simple to make, this plant hanger is for you.

It’s nice and easy and mostly made using alternating half hitch knots, which gives it a beautiful texture and clean look.

I feel like this plant hanger looks sturdy enough to hold a larger pot as well. You wouldn’t have to worry about your plant falling out of this bad boy!

Colorful Wrapped Plant Hanger by Rox Shana

This is a really neat idea and the finished plant hanger has a really cool, modern look.

The top is made with crown knots, and then the basket portion is connected using wrapping knots in a contrasting color.

You could use any color you want, or even use a few different colors!

I think an ombre effect would look amazing if you did the top row in a light shade, the middle a bit darker, and then the bottom wrapping knot in the darkest shade.

Leaf Plant Hanger by My Total Handmade

If you’re looking for something different and beautiful, check out this plant hanger pattern.

It starts out simple, with a wrapped hanging loop and half hitch arms, but then the plant basket is made with beautiful double half hitch leaves that are joined together at the base.

This one will take a little longer to make, but I’d say it’s worth it. Gorgeous!

Beautiful Plant Basket Design by Macramessage

I love this macrame plant hanger, it reminds me of a mix between a plant hanger and a basket.

The bottom section is really pretty with the diamond shaped design. On the straps, she uses the switch knot to give some extra texture.

That’s one of my favorite knot patterns since it’s just square knots and you switch the working cords around each time!

Wave Plant Hanger by Macrame School

OK, this design is just cool.

It’s amazing what creative designs people come up with!

This plant hanger is definitely unique, and you might need to focus a little more to make this one.

But the knot is really just a variation on the double half hitch knot, and careful arrangement of the cords to make the pretty waves.

Hanging Wall Basket by Greys Made Macrame

This macrame wall basket isn’t exactly a plant hanger, but she has dried flowers and plants in it and it looks so cute I had to include it here.

Wouldn’t this be adorable for Easter? You could stick some colorful eggs in there, oh my gosh it would just be too cute.

Viney Plant Hanger from White Owl Knot Macrame

If you want to try something a little more complex, check out this beautiful macrame plant hanger design.

It says it’s suitable for beginners and beyond, I’d say you probably want to have a project or two under your belt before you dive into this one though.

This plant hanger is really unique and lovely, I haven’t seen a design like this before. Definitely give it a try!
